I Still Believe - Frank Turner - Rock & Roll (Vinyl)

In the studio and during live performances, Turner is accompanied by his backing band, The Sleeping Souls, which consists of Ben Lloyd guitar, mandolin , Tarrant Anderson bass , Matt Nasir piano, mandolin and Nigel Powell drums.

To date, Turner has released eight solo albums, four rarities compilation albums, one retrospective "best of" album, one split album and five EPs. Turner's eighth studio album, No Man's Land , was released on 16 August Frank Turner was born in Bahrain where his father worked as an investment banker. His father, Roger Cunliffe Turner, is the son of Sir Ronald Mark Cunliffe Turner , [7] a merchant banker [8] [9] who was also the chairman of high street retailer BHS , and had himself also attended Eton before becoming a City investment banker.

They married on 30 August The first record Turner owned was the album Killers by Iron Maiden. Metal was the first genre of music he fell in love with, and he remains a passionate fan. The band released three records and played several shows around the UK. Turner's first solo shows took place prior to the break-up of Million Dead, with a set at the Smalltown America all-dayer at 93 Feet East in London.

After the band's split, Turner felt that "it seemed like the logical thing to do to try my hand at playing these songs more publicly and more concertedly than before". Turner's debut full-length studio album, Sleep Is for the Week was released in January , again recorded at Dive Dive 's studio, produced by their guitarist Ben Lloyd and featuring drummer Nigel Powell.

T-T also joined the live lineup on keyboards through summer All remaining shows, which included Nottingham , Liverpool and Ireland , were cancelled — the first time that Turner as a solo artist had cancelled any show in ten years.

In December , Turner released The First Three Years , a compilation of demos, b-sides and covers that were not featured on either of his first two studio albums. The album was produced by Alex Newport , as previously suggested in an interview by Turner.

Prior to recording Poetry of the Deed , Turner stated that: [23]. The album is going to be called Poetry of the Deed. Turner was announced as the support act on The Offspring 's summer tour, during which he documented his travels with a blog on British music website NME.

From a "career" point of view, it's also great — playing to many thousands of people a night across the States is an opportunity not to be sniffed at. Turner's third studio album, Poetry of the Deed , was released on 7 September , and reached 36 in the UK album chart.

He also accompanied Flogging Molly and The Architects on the Green 17 Tour, and announced via his Twitter that he was working on new songs. In June he supported Green Day on their stadium shows, and also featured as the cover star of Kerrang! Turner played at many festivals throughout the summer of , including his headlining appearance at the Two Thousand Trees Festival , playing his new song "I Still Believe".

The pair recorded the album in Colorado whilst on tour together. Turner announced on his Twitter on 24 February that his fourth studio album would be called England Keep My Bones and that it would be released in the UK on 6 June and worldwide on 7 June In March , Turner stated that: [38].

I wanted this album to feel more like a solo record made with a band, whereas the last record was more of a band album overall. There's still a fair bit of 'rock' material on the record, but there's a lot more folky, acoustic material this time around than last time. I'm not taking any drastic stylistic turns here, but there are little forays into new territory at the edges. This record is a bit more down the middle. There's even an acappella tune on there.

But then there's a pretty full-on hardcore song as well. He also announced that he would soon be releasing "Peggy Sang the Blues" as the first single from the album.

On 21 March , it was announced that Turner would be making the step up to the main stage at Reading and Leeds in August Turner also played Download , Blissfields and Cambridge Folk festivals, as well as many other festivals across Europe, and as a headliner at Blissfields Festival.

On 21 April , Turner played his th solo show at the Strummerville festival in Shoreditch , London. During his May tour, Turner played a new song, tentatively titled "Rod Stewart". England Keep My Bones entered the UK chart at number 12 on its week of release, Turner's highest charting album to date. The album compiles material recorded after the release of Turner's first compilation, The First Three Years , that does not appear on either of Turner's two successive studio albums, including tracks from EPs, singles, covers and unreleased material.

In spring , he played several dates in Canada as an opening act for Joel Plaskett. The group played their first shows in London and Leeds shortly before playing at the Reading and Leeds Festivals , where they debuted some new material and covered the likes of The Streets and Nirvana.

In October , 'Believe', Turner's own beer, was announced. Turner opened for the Dropkick Murphys on their European tour, also headlining a tour in November and December, Turner recorded his fifth studio album in Burbank, California , in October The reason for recording abroad for the first time in California was that producer Rich Costey wouldn't come to England with all his equipment so he convinced Turner to record it in Burbank.

On 4 January , a video was shot for what would be the first single. On the same day Turner announced on Twitter that the single was the song "Recovery". On 9 January, Turner uploaded a photo to his Instagram page showing the names of all 13 songs that would feature on his new album. He also posted on his fan forum that an extended edition of his new album would be released that includes an extra 5 or 6 songs.

Following the release of the album Frank Turner embarked on a short UK tour. He was also confirmed as the headline act for the Two Thousand Trees Festival and main stage slots at the Reading and Leeds festivals. On 3 January , Turner appeared on the BBC 's Celebrity Mastermind answering questions on Iron Maiden , [49] scoring 20 points in total 7 on his specialist subject , and coming first.

In Q2 , Turner announced that he was currently in the process of making a sixth studio album. Turner said that it would most likely be out early , although actual dates are uncertain at this time. Honey - Mariah Carey - Rainbow + Bonus Tracks (CD, Album)

Like "Did I Do That? Brimming with equal parts attitude and anger, "X-Girlfriend" is an empowering warning to the ex of Mariah's new lover. Mariah's soaring vocals have become her trademark, and her confidence in her pipes has been an essential tool in her career since her debut in the early '90s. Sultry slow jam "Bliss" stands out not because of Mariah's soothing melody, but because of the sky-high runs that she hits throughout the song.

The pressure of the separation and constant press attention began to take its toll of Carey. Growing creative differences with producer Walter Afanasieff ended their working relationship, after collaborating on most of Carey's previous output. With a variety of writers and producers and its new musical direction for Carey, the album was always likely to be a commercial success.

The track was very different from Carey's previous recordings, and was described by author Chris Nickson as "street Hip-Hop music, with a booming bass. Combs's production gave the song a "light and airy" effect, further distancing it from Carey's contemporary sound.

The album's second single, " Butterfly ", was one of the ballads Carey wrote with Afanasieff. Another ballad Carey wrote with Afanasieff was " My All ", written as a contrast to the album's general hip hop flavor. The track was recorded in Atlanta, where Elliott resided, and included background vocals from Carey's long-time friend, Trey Lorenz.

While both were similar ballads to Carey's previous work, [9] Nickson said:. While up to the standard of anything Mariah had ever done before, [they] suffered in comparison.

But even here you could hear the new Mariah in the spareness of the arrangements and the way it was her voice, rather than any instrument, that controlled the song. She'd grown to the point where having less behind her really proved to be more, for the song and for her. Carey expressed a desire to feature her concept both on the house record, in addition to the ballad that would become "Butterfly". The song was one of the last recorded tracks and was the only non-original song on Butterfly.

There are two Mariah Careys on Butterfly. One is the pop-oriented, ballad-leaning traditionalist who works very effectively with her longtime professional partner, composer-producer Walter Afanasieff. The other is a self-styled hip-hop fanatic who worked with Ol' Dirty Bastard on her last album and teams up here with several of that genre's movers and shakers, most notably Sean "Puffy" Combs, the godfather of hip-hop soul and the hottest producer in pop music today. To promote Butterfly , Carey made many live appearances.

In Germany, she sang "Butterfly" on Wetten, dass..? However, after the album's release, many fans requested Carey to tour, especially in Asia and Australia. The tour included eleven shows, four in Japan's largest stadium, Tokyo Dome , one in Taiwan, five in Australia and one in the United States.

Both fans and critics praised the quality of the show and Carey's vocals. Five singles were released from Butterfly ; some featured as airplay-only singles, while others were released only in certain territories. The song became Carey's twelfth number-one single on the Billboard Hot and topped the chart in Canada, while reaching the top-five in New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The song of Carey's career, where the lyrical strokes are as broad and obvious as they are naked. Mariah the chanter flawlessly adapts to their singsong style, largely boxing her multi-octave range into a sly, hypnotic melody so that when she really wails at the end, you really feel it. Carey lunges toward musical maturity by embracing, not shunning hip-hop. This is the height of her elegance and maybe hip-hop-soul's, too. While not commercially released in the US, the song's music video received heavy rotation on MTV and Vh1 , due to the record's popularity.

The song was the most commercially successful song on Butterfly , becoming Carey's thirteenth chart topper in the US, and reaching the top-ten throughout Europe. Mariah and Ben later had a falling out, slimming the odds of the songs being released.

In order to promote Rainbow , Carey embarked of her fourth headlining and third worldwide tour. The set list featured songs from most of Carey's previous studio albums, as well as some tracks from Rainbow.

Ticket sales were very strong; the entire US leg sold out in a matter of days. The Asian and European leg mirrored the commercial success of her previous two tours.

Some critics and fans reproached her of having a "tired and hoarse voice," while others commented on Carey's choice of wardrobe. Several critics and many concert-goers praised the tour, calling it an intense celebration of Carey's career. Five singles were released from Rainbow ; two were worldwide international releases and three were limited promotional releases. Arion Berger from Rolling Stone called the song Carey's "most insinuating: nasal, silken, declarative, riding the percolating beat.

While becoming Carey's fifteenth chart topper in the US, the song achieved moderate chart success in Europe and other territories. Berger called it a "gospel soar" and complimented Carey's vocals, as well as the harmonies by 98 Degrees. A music video for "Can't Take That Away" was released around the same time, which features Carey on a rooftop garden.

Carey sings during a rain storm, and towards the video's conclusion, the sun arises, bring forth a "new day. After performing moderately around the world, a new version of the song, featuring Westlife , was released in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Scenes of the group exploring the island are cut with scenes of them in the studio, though Carey never re-recorded her vocals from the original version. Rainbow received positive reviews from critics, many of whom noted the new direction in Carey's music. Amy Linden from Vibe was less impressed by the album, particularly the songs on which Carey sings over hip hop samples or alongside guest rappers, deeming it a commonplace formula--"pairing a singing thrush with a rhyming thug.

In his opinion, "it would have been a more effective album if the heartbreak, sorrow, and joy that bubbles underneath the music were brought to the surface. Rainbow debuted at number two on the Billboard chart with , units sold, the highest first-week sales of Carey's career at that time. In total, Rainbow stayed in the top twenty for ten weeks and on the chart for thirty-five, making one re-entry. Rainbow debuted at number three on the Australian Albums Chart , staying within the chart for seven weeks.

The song writing on this album is near perfection. It's not experimental at all and don't get me wrong I love everything the velvets did before this but these are expertly crafted pop songs and probably some of the best I've ever heard.

To me, this album really cements Lou reeds genious versatility as a musician. These songs evoke great feelings regardless of their structure. I wouldn't write this album off. Definitely worth a listen, if you're a fan of music in general you will appreciate these gems I'm sure. Reply Notify me 4 Helpful. Players control wizards that are able to cast spells and conjure armies of creatures using magical energy known as mana. The objective of the game is to desecrate the enemy's altar. Sacrifice's campaign follows the story of a vagrant wizard known as Eldred. Five gods offer him a home, but Eldred must settle with only one.

Early on in the campaign, the gods hear a prophecy that foretells their destruction by a traitor amongst them, a traitor that only a wanderer could defeat. The waypoint leads to a unique Orokin Memory Cipher terminal that cannot be bypassed, so Ordis suggests searching the area for clues. As it is a memory cipher, that is it requires the correct sequence as a genuine memory from the user, it cannot be brute-forced even with the correct sequence until all parts have been memorized by the Operator.

There are two blue symbol pairs around the area; to solve the Cipher, players must match the cipher to the order of the symbol pairs discovered. Beyond the unlocked door, Sentient Mimics lie in ambush; these Old War Sentients carry beam rifles and have the same damage resistances as Battalysts and Conculysts do. In the midsection of the Orbiter is an area where the Vitruvian can be inserted.

When the Vitruvian is inserted Ordis expresses his regret at not being more forceful in rejecting the Operator's orders, before the Orbiter tilts and all its lights turn off momentarily.

When the Operator attempts to equip Excalibur Umbra in the Arsenal , he unexpectedly rejects the Transference, displaying sentience as he lashes out against the Operator. During the struggle, the Operator manages to perform Transference on Excalibur Umbra and accesses a memory. The memory is of a man lying in a hospital bed who has fallen ill and is unable to speak, with Ballas and a Dax soldier - who turns out to be the man's son called Isaah - by his bedside, with Ballas telepathically conversing with the man and threatening to kill his son.

Excalibur Umbra escapes, but this act unlocks a symbol within the Vitruvian, "Blasphemy", where Ballas curses the Sentients for their betrayal and starting the Old War. Realizing the Vitruvian codes are locked within Excalibur Umbra 's memories, the Operator proceeds to track him down. While en route, a Somachord fragment can be found on the scaffolding of a large crane may not always spawn. When confronted, Excalibur Umbra is already battling the Grineer and is impervious to all damage, while his attacks ignore the Void Mode 's immunity.

In this memory, the man and Ballas are playing a game of Komi. After a few rounds, Ballas commends the man's heroism and points out a commissioned portrait of his servitude as a Dax. Looking at the portrait unlocks another Vitruvian symbol.

As Ballas asks Isaah if he will follow his father's footsteps, Ballas telepathically threatens the figure stating that the "game" of Komi represents Ballas culling the figure's bloodline for attempting to interfere with Ballas's defection. Excalibur Umbra escapes again, and the Operator returns to the Orbiter. On the way to extraction, Sentient Conculysts appear on the scene.

The next Vitruvian symbol, "Warframes", has Ballas reveal that the Warframes were created from human subjects as Infested -hybrids converted by the Helminth as a means to fight against the Sentients led by Hunhow. However, Ballas calls the Warframes a failure as they turned on their creators, but there lies a secret hidden within the Void. Ordis reboots out of his new personality and urges the Operator to stop due to potential dangers. However, the Operator is undeterred, believing that Excalibur Umbra is leading to something.

Many dead Corpus lie ahead. Excalibur Umbra kills all the Sentients within his vicinity and uses Radial Howl to escape, leaving the Operator trapped by Mimics. A Somachord fragment appears in the lockdown room, on a bridge to the left of the entrance. When Excalibur Umbra is confronted again, he is once again invulnerable to Warframe attacks, and now has shields that prevent him from being affected by Void Blast.

Shooting down the shields with the Void Beam and stunning Excalibur Umbra with the Void Blast leaves him open for Transference and allows the Operator to go into another memory. In this memory, the man has difficulty breathing with Infested growth appearing in his vision as he is losing to Ballas at Komi.

Isaah then points to the man's Shawzin instrument, unlocking another Vitruvian symbol, as the game of Komi resumes. Ballas telepathically monologues that he betrayed the Orokin after they had killed Margulis , and informs the man that the Infested cultivates within him, slowly transforming him into a Warframe, a miracle that requires a sacrifice.

There are spaces between events that are large enough for us to ask ourselves if we would do what the man in the movie is doing. There is a belief that it is impossible to plant a tree without thinking of your own lifespan, because in all certainty the tree will be there long after you have gone. As he plants the tree, his small son watches him and then toddles thoughtlessly about on the surface of the planet he does not yet know is a planet.

Some people came to the birthday party: the man's wife, his daughters, some friends and a mailman who apparently is the island's mystic. There is a sense in which he delivers the cosmic mail, bringing news of inner realities. During the party, the news comes that the war has broken out. All of this is told slowly, in elegantly composed shots, with silences in between. When the characters speak, it is rarely to engage in small talk; the hero has a long monologue about the quality of our lives and the ways we are heedlessly throwing away the futures of our children.

When the man begs to make his sacrifice, he does so not by ranting and raving to heaven, but by choosing one of his own maids - a humble working woman - as a sort of saintly person who might be able to intervene.

Everything depends on the ability to empathize with the man in the movie, and Tarkovsky refuses to reach out with narrative tricks in order to involve us. Some movies work their magic in the minds of the audience; this one stays resolutely on the screen, going about its urgent business and leaving us free to participate only if we want to. Roger Ebert was the film critic of the Chicago Sun-Times from until his death in In , he won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism.

Although moral conduct, right belief, and participation in religious institutions are commonly constituent elements of the religious life, cult or worship is generally accepted as the most basic and universal element. In a sense, what is always offered in sacrifice is, in one form or another, life itself. Sacrifice is a celebration of life, a recognition of its divine and imperishable nature. In the sacrifice the consecrated life of an offering is liberated as a sacred potency that establishes a bond between the sacrificer and the sacred power.

Through sacrifice, life is returned to its divine source, regenerating the power or life of that source; life is fed by life. In a sense, sacrifice is the impetus and guarantee of the reciprocal flow of the divine life-force between its source and its manifestations.

Often the act of sacrifice involves the destruction of the offering, but this destruction—whether by burning, slaughter, or whatever means—is not in itself the sacrifice.

No one had linked outer space, visually, with classical music, aurally, but Kubrick was there first. Kubrick also used four avant-garde compositions by Gyorgy Ligeti that employ micropolyphony, the use of sustained dissonant chords that shift slowly.

Other Ligeti works in the film include Lux Aeterna, the second movement of his Requiem, and an electronically altered form of Aventures.

The Chorus sang the spots off the modern music. Its last chapter, from Jupiter to infinity. There was a reason we smelt pot smoke wafting outside Davies Hall. But when the Symphony launched into the great Zarathustra fanfare, the audience went nuts. Any further step toward consummation of the misapprehension would suggest homosexual inclinations — and that is a transgression that cannot be accepted. Men in dresses have long been a. But in those shows, the men become outsized caricatures of the feminine mystique, which is not at all what the men who visit Casa Valentina are about. Ready-to-wear dresses off the rack are the preferred garb. Through much of the first act, the tone is light as the regulars gather for another getaway from their male-defined roles, gently bickering among themselves, taking a newbie under their wings, and welcoming a special guest.

Employing a metaphor invoked in the play, that guest is a social-activist serpent in this Garden of Eden who comes bearing promises of increased social acceptance for the heterosexual transvestite but at a cost of ruining lives and exposing any hints of homosexuality.

As Valentina, Paul Rodrigues projects a self-confidence that disguises imminent calamities facing the establishment that carries her name. This is a production in which the wig master and costume designer get high billing, and deservedly so in the work by, respectively, David Carver-Ford and Keri Fitch.

This Casa Valentina is dressed for success, and this production hits the mark. Call or go to nctcsf. But not to worry. Just stick around for the second act. Even with the relatively demure first act, this production follows the usual Shocktoberfest pattern of reviving a Grand Guignol classic from a century ago, offering a couple of new or adapted pieces, and presenting a musical phantasmagoria.

In the first act, with shock temperatures mainly at a simmer, several performances and clever staging help provide the heat. Dan Foley plays the dipsomaniac in this period piece, and Foley has the look of a wide-eyed actor in the early talkies.

A newcomer, I believe, to the Thrillpeddlers company, Foley projects a clownish desperation and more serious anguish that well serve the piece. The story began as an episode from the s reboot of The Twilight Zone, and original screenwriter William Selby has adapted his script for the Thrillpeddlers production. The Twilight Zone-style twist is actually introduced fairly early in the story, as the drunkard seeks help for his addiction from a doctor smartly played by CJ Smith with an unconventional treatment involving a stomach parasite that has its own taste for hooch.

Earl Alfred Paus plays a stranger. But a sharpeyed reader was immediately reminded of this passage from Homintern, also recently reviewed. More good work from Jeske as the fornicating farmer, and from Crystal Why and Alix Feinsod as his jealous wife and libidinous daughter. Director Noah Hayden manages to keep the careening Demon Train on track, and he also provides a steadying hand on the bloodbath finale.

The catalyst is a strongman who tells his audiences that strength comes from the heart, and he means that quite literally.

David Bicha has feral intensity as the heavy lifter, who salivates over the sight of muscular roustabouts before snatching hearts from their chests and devouring them. After all that, the lights-out spook-show finale feels a bit tame.

Live at FNAC 1-track cd. Kaneda send us a demo from one of their live-performances. It's a long mix of more than 30 minutes which lead us into a sombre ambient universe. It sounds close to a kind of theme for an imaginary movie They used a lot of spoken samplings from the tv-news while other parts are more electronic minded with a good rhythmic.

It seems to illustrate their wide spectrum of influences and who knows, that will maybe a good chance to get a deal? Kaneda, apt. This Italian project claimed to be influenced by Laibach and Discharge. The work becomes a hard electro-industrial entity like we're used to hearing the last years. Contemporary industrial music has nothing in common with the good-old industrial compositions of a band like Laibach!

It's now much more easier and simple to create a brute and noisy texture thanks to the modern technology. Lupinaria seems to be not the worst project in the style, but I'm missing the original and creative touch! Anyway, if you like harsh-crunching percussions and noisy treatments, you will appreciate this! Fear — Truth — Pain 9-track cd. Apoptygma Berzerk remains the same.

This Belgian project claimed to be influenced by several other formations, but their sound is the closest to the catchy synthie-pop EBM of the Norwegian master! Contact: david. I already compared their sound with the early and brute terror of Imminent Starvation.

Black Sun Rising France is now distributing this Belgian project. Demo 4-track cd Negative Records. First demo for a French duo that choose the German language to inject more power and violence into the music which already sounds heavy and noisy.

The influences are coming from Skinny Puppy, Ministry and pure noise. Hard and damaging! The only thing that counts 7-track cd. They compose a mix of elaborated electro structures and gothic moods, which serve as basis of the work. You can also perceive some vague techno traces and ambient atmospheres in the background. Contact: ng-pro reborn. Electronique 7-track cd. I remember this Belgian project from an early demo, which was rather poorly inspired in the EBM-style.

The style evolved into more wave and pop influences. I can only encourage Observe Reality to take their time and work out their ideas, but this is definitely a step in the good direction! Contact: Gunther Haegeman, Kaprijkestr.

DP:7 DP. Figures 9-track cd. Hailing from France One For Jude compose a very particular style of music. It sounds pretty different than the usual gothic and ambient releases. It may be an advantage, but still a hard challenge to find an audience for this kind of stuff! Anyway, the contribution of Eric Roger involved into Sol Invictus and a few other guest-musicians add an extra dimension and at the same time, a minimal touch. One For Jude come to combine a gothic basis together with some minimal elements like accordion and trumpet which result in acceptable back-ground music.

We can maybe call it modern-experimental wave music, but once again I'm not sure there's a real audience for it! Demo 8-track cd. Daniel Pfennigsdorf, Gardelegener Str. I personally missed their previous demo which got a good review in our pages and in several other magazines all over the world. It's not very often that we get the opportunity to discover a band from Israel and especially one who's more into gothic! They aren't into pure gothic because it's combined with a few other influences like free-jazz and vague psychedelic traces The result sounds a bit ambient and ballad-minded too.

It's not bad at all, but I miss a few details that would incite me to belief in their work! Cold hearts track demo. Contact: stale zipmail. Music for tifty bars 8-track cd. This American formation is now busy for a few years, trying to combine hard guitar riffs together with electronic structures. More than once they remind me of Cat Rapes Dog in a less melodious and funny day and more hard-core minded.

I've to admit that it's a weird comparison, but that's the way it sounds! I think the band would gain a bit more refinement, adding detail to the electronic parts while it's now too rough and anarchistic to my taste.

Nothing groundbreaking for the moment! More and more Russian projects are sending us their demos and the less I can say is that most of them sounding really acceptable.

Stillife is one of these formations, which try to intermix several styles together. It moves from electro-ambient to gothic to neo-classical styles. Nothing essential, but maybe interesting if you want to discover new horizons! Contact: stiv don. Starry blue 3-track cd.

The new demo of the Swedish Tabloid only confirms their strong potential! Their music is still very catchy, but evolves into a rather Euro-pop sound.

This is a trio that perfectly work out their ideas. Contact: tabloid-informartion yahoo. Sadistic sampler 9-track cd Hateful Society Prod. It's not very often that I am deeply impressed by the press-book of a demo band! Undercover Slut aren't amateurs at all. This Parisian combo has considerable recognition in their homeland, and in some parts of the USA That's not really surprising because they music sounds perfectly appropriated for the American market.

Moving on the edge of metal-punk and rock they're not without reminding me of bands like Christian Death, M. Manson, NIN I didn't feel the same refinement as the aforementioned bands, but Undercover Slut show throughout this "best of" that they already gained enough maturity to get a serious deal DP;6 DP.

Compilation track cd 3th Brass Recordings. Contact: johncult hotmail. Womb is a noticeable English underground goth-band. The spirit of the eighties is alive more than ever I'm not surprised to hear that the band has a considerable recognition and especially in the U. K where the good old wave music is still very popular! I'm not very fond of this old-fashioned artists, but I have to admit here that it sounds rather pleasant Anyway, this is for sure oneof these bands who deserve to get a deal!

Hailing from Dresden, Yipotash just released their 3rd demo. It's a worthwhile discovery if you're into electro-industrial stuff. The music is much more than usual noise manipulations and distorted drums. Yipotash seem to be in search of a fusion between dark-electro and electro-industrial sounds. The leastI can say is that the experience is quite satisfying! This is the progressive side of industrial music and I'm sure those that are in the more electro-industrial fraternity would favour the tragic "Siamesic death"!

Demo 6-track cd The Noise Department. The 6 tracks are terrific masterpieces, which left me breathless! The basic idea is built up around primitive cadences while the repetitive sequences are approaching a certain trance sensation!

The more you enter the trip, the more you feel the skill of the duo. Industrial-techno that means much more that a whole army of established formations in the same style!

Contact: The Noise Dept. DP:9 DP. Legitimate military targets. The band-name evokes the left-wing Frenchterrorist group which was active in the eighties The music is a mix between punk, industrial and electronic structures. It sounds heavy and aggressive! Call it simply cross-over, but it didn't really impress me that much! Amber Spyglass is an American trio from Boston who just seems to avoid any form of current influences. It's liketime stopped for them in the midst of the eighties.

The comparison with the new wave style is a matter of fact. There's nothing wrong with that, but when it's composed with that less creativity, I prefer to pass DP:3 DP. Bev Stanton already received a considerable recognition for her modern approach of electronic music.

It's not that easy to describe the music as any particular style, but the composition finds definitely a place in the wide layer of triphop.

She worked together with guest vocalist Lisa Moscatiello who's a Celtic folk singer and that creates a certain contrast. I personally like the triphop cadence and the pop structures, but the expressive vocal parts sound like being lost in an unknown territory There's no real harmony and that's rather disappointing.

Nothing exceptional here Machine Heart Prod. DP:4 DP. I couldn't really believe that this Canadian formation is still alive. I'm sure most of our young readers have never heard of them before! Quite understandable if you consider that their album "Aktievierung" released on Hypnobeat is dated from !

After some internal troubles and the acquisition of a new vocalist aka Monique Albert who was the lead vocalist of Voice Industrie the duo Andreas Gregor - Kris Helstrom also members of the more popular Digital Poodle hold their trust and went on with Bang Elektronika I remember their debut album which was a real great piece of cold EBM and in the same line as Digital Poodle.

Their compositions suffer from a little weight of time, but as their music was quite advanced in time, I'm sure that a few details could bring them back on the good way. They're still holding on a strong EBM basis, but it now sounds morepoppy than before!

The best cut is "TV set" which sounds like Inertia without the techno ingredients! You can easily hear that this band is very mature, but they now have to remove the dust of their work to get more chances to make a deal!

The Italian Blank rose up from the ashes of the gothic formation Headrops. It's quite surprising to see a band moving from gothic to That's the style the duo is now dealing with! This debut-demo stands for well-done, powerful body stuff with acid and techno traces and some bouncing bass drums. There's still a funny, but hard danceable cover of P. Lion's "Happy children". It's just a pity they close this very acceptable debut by a noisy-screaming piece entitled "Methanoid torp".

It's not very common to hear pure EBM coming from the Italian scene, but Blank is one of the exceptions to the rule! Riccardo Mattioli, Via d. Orsi 25, Langhirano PR, Italy. Call me alice Bassguitars are mixed with dry drums, some minimal electronics and dito guitar riffs. Apart from being rather attractive to look at, her voice is very much appealing as well. Musicwhise I like the second track the most for having some really nice hooks.

What I hear here can already stand the comparison with bands such as Clan of Xymox. The melodies are there, without wanting to copy anyother band. Ceoxime already appeared on a few samplers in their homeland USA , but I think they're less familiar to most of you. Their style has been built up with a strong wave basis, but the more I walked through their demo, the more I perceive pure electronic structures which even move on the border of modern electronic.

There's also a vague, but irresistible mystical element by the way of singing. The female vocal parts are like emerging from the depths, like a magical elixir Notice by the way that next to some remixes, this demo also contains work from other bandsthat has been remixed by Ceoxime. The first pieces aren't fully worthwhile, but the second part simply entitled bonus tracks sounds pretty cool!

You can here listen to the remixes the band realised for other formations like Diverje, Noxious Emotion, Function 13 and a few other ones. A demo that only contains 2 songs and 2 different faces! The second one is totally different, more into quiet electro-fields with a whispering-distorted male vocalist. It's definitely more original and credible! Anyway, 2 songs are not enough to get an objective point of view!

Ramirez, Parkview Dr. A dark celebration. The adoration for Gary Numan has no limits This guy decided to compose a tribute to his hero I've a lot of respect for such a hard concept, but at the other side, still some reservations because I personally think there are some sacred icons you better not tread on!

Gary Numan is probably one of them! Anyway, the devotion of Jim is easily excusable! The guy totally surpasses himself, working for eight months, day after day to produce his heaviest dream! Well, the result is quite honest and much more than a cheap emulation. Collins who played all the instruments, has composed a personal and more rock orientated version of the synth-pop grandfather!

He took some very old and popular songs like the unavoidable "Cars", but also give some space for the contemporary Numan-music like "Dominion day". The guy did it very well, but it's definitely too rock minded for me.

I'm sure a lot of Numan fans will purchase thi!! This French solo-project is a worthwhile to listen. The complexity of the structures left me breathless. I can't simply understand why such a talented young composer is loosing his time making demos.

Well, I suppose every big name started that way The bass lines are more than once reminding to FLA, but they've been recovered with high-tech contemporary influences moving from ambient to techno. The whole production remains instrumental, but that's not a problem. There's nothing wrong with this demo because everything is absolutely prefect. Each tone seems like a part of a puzzle and when all the pieces are intermixed to each other you get a real revelation: techno-ambient music for the further generations!

Last, but not least I want to add that the global mixing is simply unbelievable. There's no possible comparison, but Composite brings to the electro-scene what bands like Haujobb, Substanz T, Autechre etc brought some years ago Virgilio, 9 Rue Larigaldie, Juvisy, France. Crushing State is a very nice surprise that combines punching EBM-tones together with heavy guitar riffs. Crushing State also experiments with a few jungle loops and a vague dub mood.

I personally like the deep body bass lines and the way all the ideas have been pieced together. Crushing State sounds very talented and mature. This is an achieved demo that deserves recognition from a label Final horizon. Cryogene are from Canada and you can hear it The first cuts "Final horizon" and "Bloodstains" are pretty cool. I've listened to worst things before!

Rebirth ep. The demo ofCyme In Bloom sounds like an auspicious start to a career. This German synth-pop formation doesn't tread on new ground, but they deserve a special mention for their highly mature production. The compositions are quite elaborate and catchy as well. An excellent new band! The Spanish project Darkshinewar delivers a quite interesting style of music where they marry the electronic facilities together with traditional instruments like violin and accordion.

The songs are recovered from a vague melancholic expression while the Spanish language in conjunction with the acoustic instruments injects a kind of folk touch. I've never ceased playing in bands, one way or another and have actually, this last weekend done a bit of recording with my band, The Filthy Dreamers, only four songs and yet to be completed, but it'll be good to hear what we sound like. Musically it's what you'd probably expect — raucous and fairly aggressive with a sweetstain of melody smeared over the top.

We have been playing together for over two years, every Wednesday night; we go to a room in North Melbourne and make a racket for a few hours. We're pretty tight these days, though we don't actually play anywhere. I think we've done four gigs in the time we've been playing together. It's pretty funny. We are all WAY different people, with different lives, which is good. I need a bit of distance from people these days. Music is a really fucking personal and intense thing to me and somehow I've gotta keep fresh with the band.

Being in each other's pockets ends up shitting me. Good music is the first casualty. I'm not a pimp so I don't wanna slut my music. I've tried doing jingles and sitting with dudes making little melodies for fuck knows what, and I'm much better a slut with my body. I've had interest over the years to sing the same sort of shit, you know, covers bands and ads and the like.

Can you imagine sitting in your lounge and hearing you own voice singing the praises of the miracle absorbent features of the new panty liner breakfast food? I'd rather have acid injected into my ears, eyes and arse. Pic: Rod Hunt. Powersurge in a sewerfuckclub or a musicalneuroweapon, something like that… maybe, I'll keep ya posted. That was a band that really screamed in a beautifully honest and ridiculous way and I really miss it still.

It had such great potential and was on quite a trajectory, but sadly blew to shit on. As soon as we incinerated you had Supersuckers and Blues Explosion gettin' really big doin' similar shit.

Man, good times to cherish though. I've actually got the last gig we did on Hi-8 vid my girlfriend shot. Full respect to him for it as well. We would sit there with coconut shells and trays of gravel and make 'walking on gravel' sounds that were synced to movies and the dudes would give us pocket money for.

I DO actually think about it though. The band, not the cock in the door thing. With regards to Splatterheads stuff, I've actually just begun talks with some one who wants to do just that. Having said that, there's always someone in the band who's an abnormal compulsive hoarder. That prize went to Marty Bungle [drums] who was a card-carrying desk tape nut who got just about every gig we ever did on tape. We went out to punch and swing, to bleed ourselves dry and feel something rare and powerful.

I still check on the scars from time to time. The other bands had cooked the joint. We went on, having prepared appropriately with a few days of sleep dep, various bits and pieces pinned to arms and throat and warpaint donned.

Mid-set and there was an insanity in the atmosphere of the room that was infecting everyone I could see from the stage. Christo smashes a glass and starts carv-. Not scratchy lines but filthy slashes that take a second or two to bleed as the flesh lays open. The same broken glass and the same filthy flesh parting slashes across and up and down my left arm. The song screamed along when this beautiful young lady, clearly overcome by the moment, smashes her way to the stage, climbs up, lifts up her shirt, grabs that good ole glass and just rips into herself.

All over her stomach, and I swear to you, she dug the fuck in. The song started goin' all over the joint as she also had the most awesome tits we'd seen all afternoon. The song hit the wall at max vel and the crowd fuckin' went spare. I've got her face, her tits and her blood deeply ingrained in my mind. I'd know her anywhere. But no one knew her and I couldn't find her. It was true brutal lust and I never got to tell her or fuck her. The cool thing is, though, we all got the same scars.

What was your favourite Splatterheads song? I rarely hear them and when I do I get surprised cause I'll really love one that disappointed me some time. I love all Christos songs. Beauty is everywhere but the most beauty always comes of pain. Do you stay in touch with the Splatterheads extended family?

Do you know what they have been up to musically? Christo lives in the bush and has The Dirt Band. They have stuff available. What stuff has been exciting you musically of late? I wanna start a museum of fucked up RnR casualties and have myself nailed above the dumpster in Urinal lane. Only joking. I been at it for twenty-five years and still have a ways to go. Did the Splatterheads enjoy more support overseas or locally?

The only way you got any support either here or overseas was to get in a fucking car or a plane and go there and do your thing. That's what we did. We just made sure that when we got there that people didn't forget it in a hurry. Any Oz bands of the time had the same drill. And I wouldn't say it was a problem really either. Made ya work for it, with no easy road. Yeah, NOT. They didn't have the work ethic to play their arses off anywhere and everywhere.

Rock stars that flash themselves down the pan. There was a tradition, and I dunno if it still exists, but you had to get shit done overseas before Australia took you seriously. These days you can be hugely successful and not even leave your fucking bedroom. Which is great too. Fuck I dunno. Get there any way ya can, I guess, good luckstuff to ya. I mean, did we earn millions of bucks?

We totally succeeded in what we wanted to do — play our own high stressenergyrock everywhere we could, get fucked up and get laid. Hey mate, this took soo long cause I redid it a few times. Had to axe a bit of longwinded shit.

Got distracted a few times. The older I get the bigger the distractions seem to get. I wanna talk more some time. Be warned, it can be a lengthy process. Be cool brother and we will meet at the right time. A tattooist by profession, Donny Rat has for many years been producing his own deranged comic art. His worlds are inhabited by mutated freaks with swastikas emblazoned on their phalluses, tattooed females with forked tongues and multiple aggressive vaginas and much more unexplainable stuff.

To enter the world of the Rat, one must first cross the threshold of decency. The following interview was conducted via correspondence, with Danger issuing the music questions, Glenno handling the art questions and Donny Rat shooting his mouth off in response. From being in the Rats, I presume?

Is there a cool story beyond that? But yeah, the name does come directly from being in The Rats. There was always the odd band around — uni students and rich kids slumming it mainly.

Long gone were the rough old days kinda shit. Even bands of the time like Rupture, Chickenshit, Heist and the like very rarely got out there and played live. So when The Rats started up — three pissed-as cunts, noxious state-housing pill-popping hoons — we started gigging around Fremantle our home base and the city [Perth], and we ended up doing literally hundreds of fucking shows over the years — anywhere, anyfuckintime. We purposely wanted to be shit. See, we emerged out of nowhere onto the scene — an unknown entity if you will — and ended up leaving an ugly stain.

Our legacy was to get away with as much crap as we did. I still do. Can you please give us a rundown on these bands? Rat: Aw fuck mate, I dunno. Believe it or not, I also sang and did shows in a short-lived Clash cover band called White Riot. Whatta slut! Dave sold dope, stolen car parts, all kinds of dubious shit.

They were pretty well known. By all accounts a walking, talking hard-on armed with a can of Coke and a bag of Samboys, a shoulder to cry on and a lump in his pants. As a band The Birnies rehearsed a lot but we only managed to play a few gigs and a bunch of backyard parties.

I was flat out with stuff like Sub Rosa, doing 'zines and stuff and then The Rats around this time, so I probably contributed to us not getting out too much. Zane went on to play bass in The Pimps, now in scumbag rockers Python. Dave Solo guitar now lives in his own world, jumping out of planes, occasionally boxing. Top cunt OK, Sub Rosa. With both bands I kinda mixed it up a bit. Like some of our releases could be classed as straight-up Oi! Sub Rosa was definitely the precursor to what became The Rats.

We put out a bunch of tapes, appeared on a few local and overseas comps. Fuck, we rehearsed a lot if I recall. Fucked up every gig we did. Lots of members in and out all the time — even punched a couple of 'em out before booting them out of the band.

It was somewhere around this time I got pulled into playing drums with this bunch of unhinged yobbos who called themselves Pitbull and Scum.

Must have been dole day. Pitbull would root his latest sleazy girlfriends right at the bar, put his head through walls, bite people When not on the goon or rooting stray runaways together, to relieve the boredom they'd head down to the local train station to punch on with the local Aboriginal youth. Bloody lovely fellas, great songwriters too.

Real Aussie Oi! Like I said, I was only their alcoholic drummer, nothing to do with the songwriting. Sadly we never really recorded anything, just a tape from the sound-desk at a gig and a couple of rehearsal tapes I used to tape everything. Now, Riot System, apart from a few shows, a few parties, were basically a bedroom band.

Who gives a shit? Real dumbshit kids stuff, as you might expect. This was the early eighties remember and we were rotten little skinhead kids having a giggle. I remember we made a rehearsal tape. Boredom is the key How would you describe the Perth experience from the perspective of someone that has seen a lot of changes over the years?

How was the scene when you came into it? How is it today? Bands come and go, people come and go, I stick around with my knob out waiting for the bodies to fall. Good luck cunt. All this local rock star hoo-har pretension and self-delusion perpetrated by misguided, misjudged formuladriven no-talents.

Like I said, we all love what we perceive to be OUR music. We all feel strongly about the music and bands we love, right. Bunch a whiney shit. Grow the fuck up. Or, if you really are as deep and depressive as projected, then stay the fuck at home and slash ya cock-vein Pull ya bloody socks up and get the fuck over y'self.

Do they really have concern about starving bloated kiddies in Africa? Are the cops really that threatening to you and your middle class lifestyle? Stay the. So any faggy youth-sexy trendsetter gets to see their suitably modern mug in print regularly and gets to build their scrapbook full of clippings and reviews and gets their year or two in the numbing glow of the shining music scene sun.

And bloody oath cunty, we use the press too! We promote the fuck out of ourselves. And we actually get pretty good support from the local press. But really, and this is most important, I got it fucking good. We play a shitload of fun fucking shows, most of 'em being more like a pissed-up party with yer mates and associates. And let's face it, The Homicides are always drunker and more drugged-up than the punters we play to and we still tear that fucker up.

I think that counts a lot. I know I crap on a lot… You'll get used to it Kicked out of home at fifteen, booze, drugs, crime, living on the street. I spent both my 18th and 21st birthdays locked up. Work that one out. And I was always a weird fucking kid anyway, preferring drawing stuff like pirates and car crashes and reading Christian comix and religious tracts to the company of other humans. I remember going through a big Adolf Hitler stage when I was in Grade 2 or 3.

A bit of a bloody outcast really. And glad of it. Punk rock probably saved me from total social retardation. Listening to this stuff, though, especially in the fucking suburbs we grew up in, actually made me more of a bloody outcast. But it got me out of my own fucking head, got me out of the bedroom; I thought maybe I wasn't such a fucking weirdo after all!

My first inch! Now I didn't know and didn't notice that the inch was played at 45RPM, just like a single. And it was the rawest fucking shit I ever heard. Try it at home kids, it's mental! And just as good at either speed Sorry mate, as I said me mates will tell ya too I do tend to crap on a bit.

Remember that, motherfucker. We all squat down to shit. Ya know what I mean? And thank fuck for that! To my friends both at home, over East and.

Punk rock too kids! The people that continually pat your back need bloody watching! Shitheads who perceive what they do to be precious, special or, god forgive, relevant?! Real balls. No dash. I fuck 'em Their haircut demands it, ya know. D'ya get it?

Everything's hip nowadays, everything is cool and acceptable. Individuality has become conformity! I come from a time when ya sat back and earned respect. When idiots got belted. Just when did our punk rock and hardcore become mainstream, or worse, safe?! Music scenes? Shit man, don't get me wrong, OK, I love our punters, even respect the ugly fuckers, but nothing really changes.

It all comes and goes like a pubic hair down the drain. Next please. Though I suppose in some ways I am very definitely part of some music scene and even responsible for creating some of it But it's an easy target just begging for a kick in the nuts. I manipulate it to my own means.

Kill John Butler. The Homicides are decidedly underground — strongly and arrogantly independent if you will. So all the crap has little to do with how we approach things.

Let me tell ya, mate, the older I get the more enemies I make. But also, my life, the band, friends, all that good good stuff, just gets better and better. Gimme a fucking medal. Is there any difference between the Dose and the Homicides besides the name? The Rats were doing shows over there, pissing on with the A. O and Blurters boys top cunts to a man! When we got back to Perthsville the band kinda broke up.

Piece of piss really. We started playing shows about two weeks later. Fuck it, ya know. We were just trashed, belligerent and having a lot of dirty nasty fun. So were our crowds!! Bodies flying everywhere, glasses and bottles flying, punches thrown, blood, puke, potato chips and nudity — you name it.

Our cobber, Big Col', passed out cold with his head in the bass drum while we were playing. We started to get banned a lot pretty. The name change? We were a pretty volatile bunch. Anyway, one night after an abysmal show I think I may have passed out mid-set this night. Not unusual mind you! We had a big set to out the front of the pub, he quit, we chucked him out. Hahaha, no probs. With Elvis temporarily out of the band I went, fuck it, change the name!

Hence The Homicides. Elvis was back about a month later and we continued on as normal. Like I said, no probs. Danger: Why did Elvis Overdose eventually leave? Obviously you shifting to vocals from guitar was a huge move. Rat: Elvis had had enough basically. The poor cunt was burnt out. I need a break. We go pretty hard onstage and off, and poor Elvis was just spent. Admittedly, we had gone a bit mad on our last Melbourne tour, our arsehole personalities unchecked, and Elvis had enough putting up with us and our bullshit.

Ya know, he used to beat himself up pretty good onstage, a bit of a mad cunt, always at full-pelt. There was no middle ground or downtime with Elvis onstage — all the time every time. The bloke was just rooted. Staunch as fuck. Regarding me taking over sole vocals and dropping the guitar, it was natural mate. Another piece of piss. Been there done that with like The Rats and Sub Rosa. If I was gonna be out the front I had to be able to give it everything I got, right.

Currently drunken guitar wizard in sleaze rockers Python , a real fucking mean guitar slinger cunt of a drummer though. Anyway, as it was, me and Bugsy ex-Mickey Flash had been talking about getting a band together for ages.

He knew all our songs already too. Too fuckin easy And apart from his stunning good looks and suave personality, the little prick can really play that thing like a motherfucker and has the heart and dash of a bloody lion. Our first couple of rehearsals with Bugsy we wrote like six new songs flat. Some girls inform me they saw him about ten minutes ago out back of the venue. I go out back and sure enough there he is, passed out in a puddle of his own puke!

I thought, this boy will do bloody nicely! We got him going and played an absolute blinder of a show.
